Resurgent Medvedev Claims Maiden Trophy in Over Two Years

Nineteen of the Russian's twenty-one victories have been achieved on hard courts

A resurgent Medvedev won his first trophy for 882 days with success over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

The athlete, a former number one, has had a difficult season, managing just one match at the Grand Slams and suffering a difficult moment at the New York tournament.

Medvedev's inconsistency on the professional circuit - and issues with his serving in specific - caused him falling of the top ten and finally parting ways with long-term trainer Gilles Cervara.

Currently training with Johansson and his other coach, Medvedev has consistently progressed in the last few weeks - peaking in a closely contested competitive victory over challenger Corentin Moutet.

This marks the player's initial trophy after the Rome competition and maiden on a hard surface after spring of the previous year.

The win also indicates Medvedev has won 21 titles at twenty-one distinct events.

"For the first time I'm at a tournament with my two daughters together, so to get a trophy is really nice," said tennis professional Daniil Medvedev.

"This victory is in tribute of my younger daughter my daughter, because the maiden victory I achieved when my child Alisa was born was for her."

The tennis star, the past champion, had lost his past six championship matches, including in Halle previously this season.

His counter-punching strategy and frequent emotional displays on the playing surface had caused some to question if his skill to play at the top level was finished.

Yet the athlete has implemented adjustments in the past month, striving to advance forward and play positively, backed up by an improved service.

He recovered from a break down in the first set against the challenging Frenchman, winning four of the final five games to gain the advantage.

The competitors traded break points in the second set before Moutet, striving for his maiden professional victory, seized the initiative to push for a final set.

Moutet defended four initial chances in a competitive third set before the Russian broke to 15 to secure the win.

Fittingly, he earned victory with a point at the net area, with the Frenchman incapable to handle a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
